They say that art is an effective means to communicate pain.
That statement holds true for Gary Motelone, aka Big Stat: his passion for wordplay is second to none, as he draws strength out of crisis. The Connecticut native has appeared on the Jimmy Fallon Show, toured with Red Man and Method Man, and has numerous collaborations with some of hip-hop’s finest.
My first introduction to Big Stat’s work was through his song, properly named ”Pain”, a powerful memoir dedicated to the loss of his mother. The song first caught my attention as a featured track on CSI Miami.
Having a relatable subject, it definitely struck a chord with me, given the loss of my mother at that time. It became a part of my personal soundtrack to life, which earned it tons of replay value in my eyes. Big Stat has a Scorsese-like ability to set a scene and execute, bringing you deep into the album, Heart of a Lion with every punch line, leaving you on the edge of your seat.
His new single, ”Black Magic”, produced by Ralphie. O, does not disappoint, and from the clips of the full project that I got to experience, Big Stat won’t be slowing down anytime soon.
